FAQ

Common Questions About Swim Coaching

Honest answers to the questions I hear most often – from “Can I still learn this?” to rescheduling a session.

Can I still learn proper freestyle as an adult?
Yes – at any age. Freestyle is not a question of talent but of technique taught in the right order: body position first, then breathing, then the arm stroke and kick. Most adults struggle only because nobody ever showed them that sequence. With structured guidance, even complete breaststroke-to-freestyle switchers learn a relaxed, endurance-ready freestyle.
I currently only swim breaststroke – how hard is the switch to freestyle?
Easier than you think, because you are not starting from zero: as a breaststroke swimmer you already bring water confidence and basic endurance. The biggest adjustment is the breathing – exhaling calmly into the water and inhaling to the side instead of swimming with your head up. My course “from breaststroke to freestyle” is built around exactly that.
Where in Berlin do the sessions take place?
I coach in the districts of Tempelhof, Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, Neukölln and Schöneberg – everything arranged individually. During our first contact we work out which pool and which time slot suit you best; pool crowds also vary a lot by time of day, and I will give you an honest recommendation. The video analysis and my swim guides work completely location-independently.
How much does the coaching cost?
A private session (60 minutes) costs €80, the video analysis of your swim technique €95. If you want to train regularly, the 5-session package saves you money. All prices are listed transparently on the home page – no hidden costs, no contracts.
How does the video analysis work if I don't live in Berlin?
Completely location-independent: you film yourself swimming (a smartphone is enough – I send you a short guide on the camera angles beforehand), send me the footage digitally, and receive a frame-by-frame commented analysis with specific drills. That works from anywhere – in English or German.
How many sessions do I need until I can swim freestyle?
Honestly, that depends on your starting point – water confidence, mobility, and how often you practise between sessions. As a rule of thumb: with regular training, many breaststroke-to-freestyle switchers reach a solid foundation within a few weeks that they can build on independently. After the first session I will give you a realistic assessment for your own path – no blanket promises.
Do you offer coaching in English?
Yes – all coaching sessions, the freestyle course and the video analyses are fully available in English as well as German.
What do I need to bring to a session?
Swimwear, well-fitting goggles and – depending on the pool – a swim cap; that is all you need to get started. If training aids such as a pull buoy or kickboard make sense for specific drills, we will sort that out in advance; most pools have them available. All organisational details (meeting point, pool entry) are clarified before your first session.
Can I reschedule a booked session?
Yes: sessions can be moved free of charge into another available slot up to 24 hours before the start – that applies to you just as it does to me. For cancellations at shorter notice than 24 hours, the session is charged, except in justified cases such as illness with a doctor's note.
Is the coaching suitable for triathlon preparation?
Absolutely – triathletes are one of my focus groups. The swim leg is where many triathletes waste time and energy they later miss on the bike and run. We work on efficiency, breathing under load and a technique that holds up in open water. The video analysis also works well as a benchmark before the start of the season.
I feel insecure in the water – is this coaching still right for me?
Yes, especially then. Private coaching is the most protected setting there is: no group pressure, no pace set by somebody else. We start where you feel safe and build confidence step by step. Just tell me briefly where you stand when you get in touch – I will plan the first session accordingly.
How does the first contact work?
Very simply: you write me two or three sentences about your goal via the contact form or by email. I get back to you within 24 hours with an honest assessment, a suggested appointment and all the organisational details. No obligation – you decide in peace afterwards.
